Iblees

Iblees is the name of a Jinn whose title is ‘الشيطان’ (Al-Shaytaan). Jinn are a creation of God. They are made of fire and have freewill .

One day, God informed the angels that he is creating man. When he commanded the angels and Iblees to bow down to man they all fell except Iblees. He refused to do so out of denial and arrogance. He presented his reason for denial as his greater creation from fire compared to Adam’s clay.

Due to his arrogance, he was exiled from the courts of The Almighty. He writhed in spiteful hate. He asked The Almighty whom he had just offended for respite until the day of judgement,  promising to misguide humans from His path.

Meanwhile, God created for Adam a spouse. She is called Eve. They spent their days in a garden God had prepared for them, fearing not hunger nor thirst. God told them that they would have peace and tranquility in this garden. Except the fruit of one tree to which they were not to draw near.

Iblees then set off to where Adam and Eve were staying. He whispered his false promises to our parents, asking them to defy The Almighty by eating what he had forbidden them. He promised never-ending kingship and eternal life. The form of angels who busy themselves in the celebration of The Almighty were offered through disobedience! What an incoherent logic.

He, through his incessant slithering, finally caused our parents to slip. Triumphant at his first victims, he heard a voice from the sky. ‘Leave this garden. You shall now be enemies’. The Almighty had sounded his trumpet. Adam, Eve, and The Devil left the garden. The Almighty was swift to take account.

Adam and Eve had a provision for them until a certain time. Adam felt remorse at his disobedience. He repented to the Almighty, who taught him the words he should say. The Merciful God forgave him, and told him that any guidance that comes from him… that the people who follow it shall have no fear.

The Devil continues his spiteful campaign on all of humanity. This hatred and enmity stems from his cosmic defiance in the courts of the Almighty. His simple but horrific denial of submission. He disdained Adam. He was ungrateful to the Almighty. He was arrogant enough to defy his direct command. He is a deceiving charmer. He replaced the revelation of the Almighty with his wretched revelation. It makes man think what is filth is what is pure. It makes man forget his reasoning. Until man follows in his footsteps of ingratitude and disobedience; God seals his light that he has placed in man. Until he is unable to hear: deaf, dumb, and blind.
